DESTEFANO BILL CELEBRATES LIBRARIES

  • Date : February 8th, 2023

Library Lovers Month is a celebration dedicated to the people who enjoy books and the many other services our great libraries have to offer. These are places for learning, for research, for entertainment. They are a place to meet; a place of the community. In libraries, you can discover amazing adventures, enjoy music, art, culture, history. You may even find something about yourself.

Here in my district, libraries are expanding by popular demand. We recently cut a ribbon for a new Patchogue-Medford Library Annex and a new satellite branch for the Mastics Moriches Shirley library, which is also renovating its main building and constructing another branch to better serve their community.

These beloved institutions connect people through Internet services, programs, trips, events, training, technology, education and, equally important, opportunities to interact with like-minded people face-to-face. They provide a safe haven for all ages and are truly a sanctuary from the hustle and bustle of everyday life.

It is the sense of this legislative body that when you have institutions of such noble aims and accomplishments, they should be recognized and celebrated. As such, I proudly introduce this measure proclaiming February as Library Lovers Month in the State of New York and encourage the governor and all of my legislative colleagues to join me in heralding our great many libraries and the people who tirelessly work to make them places of such high regard.
